Some Professional Shots.....

Its not that often that I get to see the professional shots of my cakes, however when I did Matt and Jesaras wedding in the summer, (2) talented ladies that I know were also vendors for that wedding.....1st was Susan of Moments That Shine and 2nd was Jennifer Cavanaga of Jennifer Images . Jennifer forwarded me some spectacular shots of the cake. Jennifer is a wonderful photographer and if you are ever looking for that perfect person to capture your wedding, she is the one !!!!!

Thanks Jennifer for the shots, they are AMAZING !!!!!

A little bit of catch up......

To Oklahoma and Back.......

I have been a bit behind on my posts lately.....mainly because I have been swamped with orders and also because me and my good friend Lisa @ Flour Confections took a trip in late September to compete in the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show. This show is the Olympics of the cake world, the show has 2 shows combined into one.....the first being the Grand National Wedding Cake Competition and the second being the divisional sugar art show. Because I had too many orders I could not commit the time needed to enter the Grand National Wedding Cake Show but I did enter into the divisional show.

Much to my delight, my holiday cake entry placed 2nd in the professional division....and from what I have been told..if you place at all at this show you have done good !! My other entry in the professional wedding cake category did not place, however it did make to get shot for the magazine American Cake Decorating......so we will see if that cake makes an appearance!!!!!

Next years theme is "Of Sea and Shore" for the Grand National Wedding Cake Competition.....and I already found my inspiration !!!!

So yes, I will be Oklahoma bound next September !!

Congratulations Jesara and Matt !!!!

I had the pleasure of this past weekend of doing a wedding cake for Jesara and Matt....again I got to travel to Tosca banquet hall in Oshawa......Jesara had a bright pink, orange, yellow theme all accented with gorgeous gerbera daises !! I created a simple cake for her with those gorgeous gerberas.......everything in the room was perfect and stunning right down to the napkins of that same pink and orange !!!!

While I was setting up, I was speaking with the DJ......on the cake table was a bucket tied with the matching ribbon that I used on the cake....and it was labeled "BOOB BUCKET"......I had no clue what that meant so I asked the DJ........to make the bride and groom kiss, money get dropped into this boob bucket...then at the end of the night all the money that gets collected gets donated to breast cancer......I thought that was THE best idea I have ever heard.......

CONGRATULATIONS JESARA AND MATT !!

A Baby on the way .....

Last summer I had the pleasure of doing a wedding shower cake for a lovely bride to be Elisha.....her mom contacted me and ordered the cake......the cool part about that was that Elisha's mom Nora lives in Texas......!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS Elisha and Nora !!!!!

Amy contacted me about months ago and wanted a cake to replicate her invitations.....

I created this cake for her that matched the beautiful green flower print she had on her invites.....I then created a topper for her using a combination of the flowers and her and her hubbys initials....

I took the cake to a beautiful restaurant at Yonge and the 401 - Aubergine Du Pomier......

Congrats Amy and Derek !!!!!

Again, Thanks Pam and Edward for letting me be part of your special day !!

Hello Karey,
I'm glad we were able to catch you at our reception ...it was great seeing you again!
You have been so great during our wedding planning and we are very happy and fully satisfied with the final product. The wedding cake you created for our special day was very elegant and delicious!! You designed it beautifully with the pearls, peonies and crystals. The cake table was also nicely arranged with the rose petals and ribbons on the cake knife set. It was perfect!!!
Attached is a photo taken by a friend at the wedding. Unfortunately, our photos from our photographer isn't ready yet. But I think this one should suffice. We will forward you a copy when we get it.
Many thanks,
Pamela & Edward

Melanies Baby Shower

This is the second baby shower cake I had the pleasure of doing last weekend.......this one was very special to me......here's the story......

about a month ago I won tickets on a local radio station to the Much Music Video Awards, along with that came special VIP status and a meet and greet to meet the NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK.....anyone who knows me KNOWS that as a teenage girl, these 5 guys were my LIFE.....

anyway......when I went with my good friend Kathy, we met the other winners and it was the coolest thing ever....we clicked right away and had the greatest night EVER....we hung out, met the New Kids, met Hedley and had one heck of a time....it was like we had been friends for years......

One of the girls, Melanie, is expecting her first baby in September, not only was I invited to the shower but had the honour of doing the cake........I had the best time ever and these girls are the best bunch of people anyone could ask for !!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Melanie, and if you need anything, let me know !!!

Oh....one more thing......Melanie knows she is having a boy and is gonna name him Nolan......just like my 2nd boy...his name is Nolan.......HEY...we were meant to be friends!!!!!!

Goodbye Tummy......Hello Mommy......

I had the pleasure of doing a couple of baby shower cakes this past weekend.....this in the first one, and I must say that I LOVE it.....the lady who ordered the cake, wanted the "Goodbye Tummy, Hello Mommy" saying on the cake with (2) figures, a pregnant lady and then a lady with her baby.....after that the design was up to me !!!

I wasn't here when she picked it up, but my hubby told me she loved it !!!

Supervisors Award.....

In my spare time I am a cake decorating instructor at Michaels Craft Store n Whitby, Richmond Hill and Markham......on July 12th all of the Ontario instructors had the pleasure of gathering for our annual instructor meeting where we get the inside scoop on new products and other goings on. The highlight of the meeting is the annual awards ceremony, where instructors are recognized for their accomplishments such as number of students taught and special supervisors awards. This year I knew I was getting my 100 and 250 students taught pins and recognition......what I did not know was that I was chosen my as the Supervisors Choice award for one on the best instructors in Canada.....I received beautiful bouquet of flowers, a plaque and a booklet to choose a spectacular gift.....I have chose a beautiful necklace....when I receive it I will let ya know.....I just want to say thanks to Tracey, the Wilton supervisor for Canada, for choosing me !!!!!!!

By the sea..........

By the beautiful sea....that is where the bride I had the pleasure of doing a wedding cake for on July 12 got married. In March, Alexandra got married on the beach and on July 12th had a beautiful reception to celebrate with her family and friends. We carried the beach theme into the cake, and made her and her groom a cupcake tower complete with a seashell wedding cake with brown sugar sand and cupcakes with chocolate shells on top of each one.

I hope you had a fantastic reception and I can't wait to see more pictures of you and your hubby !!!

Congratulations Pam and Edward !!!

This weekend was a little slow for me only 1 cake order.....but thats okay....it was for an amazing couple Pam and Edward. They booked with me in the winter months and their day had finally come - I traveled to La Toscana Banquet hall in Vaughan - and what a gorgeous facility it is!!!! For this wedding, cake was the actual desert so I delivered 275 pieces of cake for all their guest to enjoy. Pam's flowers of choice were peonies so when I got their the florist had left me the flowers to go on the cake - I also took the liberty of finding some other decor there that I could dress the table up with. As I was setting up I heard someone call my name - it was Pam - she had come in to see all the going ons and came over to me ans thanked me - it was so nice - I don't ever get to see the brides in person so this was great - and my goodness was she ever STUNNING - her gown, her hair everything........

Thanks Pam and Edward for letting me be a part of your special day and I can't wait to see that picture of you guys with your cake you promised me !!!!

Congrats Kirsti and Desmond !!!

Back in February a sweet sweet lady by the name of Kirsti contacted me to help her with her cake for her wedding....she was using the very unique flower, lotus, as she and her finace were getting married in Jamaica and they wanted something tropical - so we designed her wedding cake to match her invites and the flowers......when I went to go set it up - the hall was so tropical - shells, sand, lotus flowers, grass skirts - it was gorgeous. While I was setting up I managed to find a box of extra stuff and used it to dress up the table for her !

I got an e-mail from her yesterday thanking me for everything !!!

hi karey i just wanted to say thank you for the gorgeous, delicious cake you made . i was stunned when i saw it yesterday. not only did it taste amazing, it was a work of art. i LOVE what you did with the table too. everything was perfect! thank you so much.

You are more than welcome and congratulations on your marriage!!!! Can't wait to see a picture of you guys with your cake !!!

FORE......

This cake was designed for a golf enthusiast.....he was celebrating his 50th birthday and his wife wanted something unique and special - I took inspiration for this one from many many many golf cakes I have seen on line, and thought it would be fun to try out - I hand made the golfer dude. The cake was a huge success and when I delivered it the birthday boy was not there - he was out - golfing of course !!!

Dana's Baby Shower

This past weekend was SUPER busy for me - 6 orders in 2 days - 4 orders due Sat and 2 on Sunday - needless to say I am TIRED !!!!

Heres the first - it was for a baby shower - it was based on one of my past designs for a 1st birthday. I dropped the cake off, which turns out to be 10 minutes from me and met the lady that ordered it - what a sweet lady - she actually cried tears (of joy) when she saw the cake - she was over the moon thrilled with it !!

Congratulations Melissa and Ryan !!!!!

This past Friday the 13th saw one of the sweetest girls I have EVER met get married - I booked her wedding cake a year ago and the day had finally come !!!! Melissa found my web site on line and booked me on the spot, she then referred a few of her friends to me for cakes - she has been a true support of me and my business, so I was so excited when her wedding was approaching !!! She had chosen 75 mini cakes with a square cake on the top of the tower.......it was going to be soooo pretty. As Friday the 13th was about to be the BEST day of Melissa's life, it was about to become the WORST of mine......heres the story !!!

so I get up Thursday morning, ice the cakes and start at it.....by 5pm I had them all cut into 2x2x2 and iced, ready for fondant....went to teach at 630, got home at 9 and got back at it........by 10am I only had about 20 left to put fondant on.....the other 55 were done - figuring all is good to go for my 3pm delivery......well...... I was taking the 55 to the fridge when I tripped on the threshold of my cake room and yep......you guessed it, all of them ended up on the floor......so after a huge screaming fit and A LOT of tears shed.......I called my hubby.....who immediately came home from work and helped me with the new plan.....so at 11am, we are baking 75 cupcakes and cutting fondant disks and re-doing the whole order....I was freaking all night about the poor bride.....this girl booked me a year ago and has referred 3 of her friends to me that I do cakes for on a regular basis.....so that fact made me more upset !! I delivered set up, and left her a thank you note saying thanks for letting me be a part of your day.....and explained why she was seeing cupcakes and not what she ordered....and that when she brought me back the stand that I would have a refund for her for my mistake......

So.....she calls me this morning and I almost starting crying on the phone with her - but she is the sweetest girl I could ever ask for as a bride.......she asked me if I was okay and if I got hurt and that the cupcakes were gorgeous and she couldn't have asked for a better display........I told her again that I would give her her money back to which she kept saying "that is so sweet".... that things happen and she understands.......but I couldn't live with myself not giving her something back.......and that nothing would ever stop her from ordering from me again that she was so impressed that I pulled something together for her ....I had to run out today so when I got back my stand was on my porch - all cleaned, and she left me the most beautiful thank you note AND she left me one the centrepieces from the wedding - how sweet is that !!!!!!

So Melissa - THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME BE A PART OF YOUR WEDDING AND I CAN"T WAIT TO SEE A PICTURE OF YOU GUYS !!!

CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!

Congratulations Melissa and Brian !

Just over a year ago, a lady by the name of Melissa contacted me to make a cake for her daughters birthday. It was the first cake I made that was a banana cake - it was a new receipe I had and I tried it out on her ! She called me after that party and said that is was the yummiest banana cake she had ever had and that when she gets married that is the flavour of cake she wants. Well 2 birthdays later for her beautiful daughter and about a year and a half later ..... Melissa got married this past weekend at La Tosca in Oshawa......and yes she had banana cake !!! What was kind of neat for me is that 10 years ago that hall used to be a bar and one night I was there, I met a great guy - who turned out to become my husband, so it was neat to go back there! The hall was gorgeous and I saw a picture of Melissa and Brian cutting the cake and she looked radiant in her red wedding gown !

Congrats Melissa and Brian - I hope you had an AMAZING day and thanks for letting me be a part of it !

Ka-Chow .....

My family is very big into racing and race cars - my father is a past Canadian Grand National Go Kart Champion as well as a former Can Am Midget racer ! My brother is also a past go karter and 3 -time can am midget champion driver and now my nephew is a go-karter as well.....you can see that racing is in our blood !!! Through racing we have met so many people that have formed into lasting friendships. This cake I did for good friends of mine in our racing club for their little boy. I heard from Erin (his mom) that he LOVED it.....as did my son when he saw it and was devistated when he found out it was not for him.

Thanks Dave and Erin for supporting my cake business and for letting be a part of Mikey's birthday !

Nicole and Sean - Cutting the Cake

So as I was surfing facebook the other night I noticed that Nicole - the bride I did the purple bow cake for 2 weeks ago - was a friend of one of my other facebook friends - so I added her to my friend list !! And that meant I could steal her pictures of her and her groom with their cake !! Well I didn't really steal it - I told her I was taking it !!!

They had a great day and she sent along this note for me !

Hi Karey,
We cannot thank you enough for our AMAZING wedding cake!! The compliments we received on the georgeous cake were never-ending from the moment we walked into the reception until our picture perfect day was over. Its a Purse - No its a CAKE !!!!

Pretty much anything can be re-created in cake. And this is no exception - a client whom I adore and have done a few orders for in the past contacted me to make a Gucci purse cake for her cousins 19th birthday. What I found so sweet about this was that the cake was ordered for Friday which was the night before my clients wedding. She didn't want to away all the attention from her cousins birthday so she got her a custom cake - how sweet is that ! I hope you enjoyed it !!!!

Congrats Nicole and Sean

About 16 months ago, I booked my first wedding cake for the 2008 season - it was for a lovely bride to be named Nicole !! Well 16 months later her wedding was here ! I delivered the cake to a gorgeous place called the 4 Season Golf Club in Claremont. The venue was gorgeous and the engagement picture I saw when I walked in was breathtaking. Congrats on you big day guys and I can't wait to see a picture of you guys with your cake !

Jen's Bridal Shower

About 2 months ago I got a request for a bridal shower cake for an upcoming bride that enjoyed the finer things in life. They wanted to incoporate Coach bags, shoes, pearls and in addition to that they wanted to incorporate the bride and grooms heritage of french canadian and irish, so fluer di lis and shamrocks were in order. This is what I came up with and I got a lovely e-mail back saying that they enjoyed the cake so much !!!

Here is a picture of Jen and her cake !!!

Hope you had a great wedding shower and I hope you enjoy your wedding day !!!
